Menin Road South Military Cemetery, Ypres

On 31st January, 1916, 3rd Rifle Brigade of 17 Brigade, 24th Division left huts at Ouderdom and moved into the front line at Hooge in the Ypres salient. This was a notorious part of the line, with the opposing trenches close to each other and the German artillery ever active and their snipers always on the look out for targets. For the first few days here, 3rd Rifle Brigade had a relatively quiet time but on 6th February, 1916, 5 men were killed and a number of others wounded. One of those killed was Walter Musgrave.
